NATIONAL WALKING HORSE ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS 2010 WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES

The National Walking Horse Association announced July 23 its support of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games and is seeking the opportunity to showcase a naturally gaited Walking Horse as part of the Games’ breed demonstrations. To date, Tennessee Walking Horses have not been included in the demonstration.

NWHA’s support also comes with an agreement to include the WEG logo on select merchandise and in printed material, including the NWHA national news magazine. In addition, Allen All Around, 15-time NWHA National Champion, demonstrates his support of the Games by displaying the WEG logos on his saddle pad.

NWHA’s support of the Games marks the organization’s determined commitment to showcase the versatility, authenticity and natural gaits of the sound Tennessee Walking Horse in high-profile events. The 2010 Games represents an opportunity to introduce the beauty and athleticism of the Walking Horse on a worldwide stage and to thousands of equestrian fans who may not yet be affiliated with a breed of choice.

“We believe the 2010 Games represent the right time, the right place and the right platform to spotlight the naturally gaited Walking Horse, turning the attention of the anticipated 600,000 spectators to the unique qualities of the breed,” says Don Vizi, executive director of the National Walking Horse Association. “For the first time, the 16-day series of events is being held outside Europe and all events will take place at one location – the Kentucky Horse Park, which is also our home. We will remain active and vigilant during the selection process for the breed demonstration and will continue to support the Games throughout NWHA events and our communications to members.”

The 2010 World Equestrian Games will take place at the Kentucky Horse Park, Sept. 25 – Oct. 10, and serve as the world championships of the eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the Federation Equestre Internationale. These include jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, reining, vaulting, endurance, and for the first time, para-equestrian. The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are expected to draw more than 900 competing horses and more than 600,000 spectators during the 16-day event.
